Survey finds encouraging news on UK business continuity take-up

Get free weekly news by e-mailA new survey conducted by Computer Business Review (CBR) magazine in association with ‘Business Continuity - The Risk Management Expo 2007’ (to be held at Excel in London from 28-29 March), has found that 80 percent of companies have some sort of business continuity plan.

This is a very encouraging finding, showing that business continuity is becoming a de facto requirement for UK businesses.

However, the survey found that testing of business continuity plans is still a weak area, with 39 percent of respondents stating that their company tests its business continuity plan less than once per year.

Other key findings included:

* Of those with a separate disaster recovery facility, only around half (51.6 percent) of respondents said that switching over to it had ever been exercised.

* In the event of a disaster, only 39 percent said they believed their business would be able to get up and running again within ‘hours’. 38 percent said it would take ‘days’, 7 percent said it would take ‘weeks’, 2 percent ‘months’ and 1 percent said they believed their firm would ‘never’ be able to resume operations. Just over 11 percent said they did not know how long it would take to resume operations.

CBR surveyed 200 CIOs, IT directors and IT managers at UK-based firms in January 2007 via an email-based questionnaire.
