The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that many parts of Melbourne, Geelong and eastern Victoria are without power following bushfire damage to the inter-connector power line between Victoria and NSW.
Earlier this month SP AusNet, the regional power infrastructure provider, warned of the bushfire threat to power supplies, stating that if such an incident occurred ‘power may not be restored for some time, depending on damage and access issues’.
The warning contained the following advice for those affected:
“SP AusNet has an emergency hotline 131 799 and this number should be used if you notice a fault on a powerline and/or have information that may assist us in the restoration of supply. We also ask that if you notice a powerpole on fire or smouldering you contact the CFA and then SP AusNet (on 131 799).”
