ICM has announced the completion of a multi-million pound refresh of the PC and office network technology used within its UK-wide network of business continuity centres.
The intensive refresh has seen more than 5,000 of the latest Hewlett Packard Ultra Slim business PCs installed in ICM’s 12 regional locations in little over a 12 month period. The refresh has also seen the transition from the older CRT monitor to modern, flat screen TFTs and has included an upgrade to the speed of the secure local area network (LAN) connections made to each of the PCs. The refresh results in a common PC platform spanning all of ICM’s workplace recovery positions and also ensures that each workplace recovery position is permanently equipped with a PC, screen and telephone. By providing a common platform, the refresh enhances ICM’s capability to provide ‘back-up to the back-up‘, by allowing clients to easily fail-over from one ICM centre to another in the case of a wide-area incident affecting a large number of its clients.
Mike Osborne, ICM’s managing director of business continuity, commented: “Whilst many organisations refresh their PC technology every few years, this exercise is different not only because of its sheer scale, but also because the PCs are in a state of standby and only used during tests or actual disaster incidents suffered by ICM’s clients. This level of technology would be enviable in day to day use, let alone just waiting in reserve.”
