Onyx Group acquires North East England recovery centre

Get free weekly news by e-mailMiddlesbrough-based Onyx Group has acquired Teesside recovery centre company Business Continuity Centres (BCC) for an undisclosed sum.

Business Continuity Centres Ltd, a subsidiary of Rocket Science, was sold to Onyx after an internal review. Alan Timothy CEO of Rocket Science said: “Whilst we recognise the importance of business continuity, the provision of a public service it no longer fitted with our current focus on the development of sales and marketing solutions, we have worked with Onyx in the provision of online backup, and both companies identified the synergy of adding business continuity to Onyx data backup services.”

This is Onyx’s first move into the workplace recovery market and the team is already looking into the possible acquisition of a new facility in the region in which these particular capabilities can be housed.

Employing 50 staff, Onyx Group currently has a turnover of £7 million and the acquisition forms part of plans to increase this to £23 million turnover within three years with the ultimate objective of floating on AIM. The company was founded in 1994.

Neil Stephenson, sales and marketing director of Onyx Group, said: “This acquisition is the next logical step for our business to ensure we remain ahead of the market in terms of the solutions we offer. We’ve identified areas of growth in the technology sector that are compatible with our existing services and are looking at these to explore how we can further add value to our clients.

“We’re fully conversant with the regulations governing businesses in terms of their technology systems and workplace recovery is one of the key areas all businesses need to consider for the future.

“In order for us to be able to offer the most comprehensive services and products to our clients, we’re continually adding to our capabilities and building upon our existing expertise, such as the launch of our RFID capabilities earlier this month. Our market is continually evolving and the Onyx Group is evolving equally as rapidly.

“Workplace recovery is a critical consideration for all businesses that are serious about having contingency plans in place for any eventuality. In the current business climate, even one day of downtime after an accident or power outage that disrupts a company’s critical systems causes serious damage to its reputation and reliability. We are now in a position to help businesses nip such serious issues in the bud.”
