Following on from successful events in Glsagow, Edinburgh and Dundee, the Scottish Continuity Group’s 2006 Resilient Community Exercise event will be held in Falkirk on Thursday 16th November.
The objectives of the exercise are:
* To raise awareness of the benefits of joint planning between the regional emergency response organisations and the local business community in responding effectively to a major incident within a community.
* To develop an understanding and appreciation of the roles, responsibilities and needs of those involved in the management of the impact of major incidents.
* To assist in the development of a working relationship between those responsible for an effective response to the community and the economic impact of a major incident
* To identify areas for further action to achieve a resilient community capability in addition to these ‘operational’ objectives, the Scottish Continuity Group also seeks to stimulate debate at a strategic level examining the impact that disruptive events have on the economy and wellbeing of Scotland as a whole.
The day is structured as a desktop exercise and participants are presented with a scenario at the outset.
Specific functional groups are then formed to represent an organisation, or group of organisations, with representatives from emergency services, local authority, telecoms, utilities and other organisations. Each group then assesses how the disruption has impacted or will impact their daily operations and how best to utilise contingencies and existing emergency plans.
Dozens of representatives from all sectors will attend the event, bringing together a wealth of knowledge and experience. Organisations will learn how to minimise economic impact at a local level by the effectiveness and efficiency of the operational interface between the civil and business responses.
The event costs £50 to participate in and starts at 9.00am
