SunGard launches ‘Enhanced Recovery’

Get free weekly news by e-mailSunGard Availability Services has launched ‘Enhanced Recovery’, a new service for the UK market which, according to SunGard, can help customers to improve their recovery time objectives (the target time for resumption of operations following a system outage) by up to a third.

At the core of Enhanced Recovery are SunGard’s Standby*OS and system imaging techniques.

Enhanced Recovery servers at a SunGard recovery centre are configured to capture and store, daily images of a customer’s operating system. Following a disaster or the commencement of a test, SunGard technicians restore the customer’s stored server images to the recovery servers, allowing the customer’s IT managers to continue the recovery process remotely.

SunGard’s experience, during tests, is that this approach may save up to ten working hours (more than one business day) from a typical three-day business continuity test, and can eliminate unnecessary travel and subsistence costs for IT staff.

Dave Gilpin, CIO, SunGard Availability Services UK, said: “It can take an organisation almost 24 hours to resume operations after a disaster - and that’s on a good day. Paradoxically, much of the time is spent travelling to the recovery site and setting up before any restoration work can begin. By taking these elements out of the equation, we can help companies reduce their RTO’s, thereby assisting them to meet their business continuity plans and dealing with the information availability risks they face.”
