A rapidly spreading fire in central Dhaka resulted in severe damage to over 100 neighbouring factory premises.
The fire, on Thursday 12th October, is reported to have originated from a short circuit in a one of the factories at noon. Altogether 18 fire-fighting units fought the blaze and brought it under control at around 5.00pm local time.
The initial damage was estimated to be approximately 20 million taka (about 300,000 U.S. dollars).
The fire also impacted other local businesses due to the establishment of an exclusion zone and the closure of roads.
