An InTechnology survey of 170 IT managers in the UK has found that almost all (92 percent) harbour concerns over their business’ approach to the management of data. The biggest concern lay in their company’s ability to react to a disaster situation, with 44 percent of respondents claiming to have little faith in their current data back-up and restoration processes in the event of an unforeseen catastrophe.
Over-reliance on manual tape-based back-up processes was cited by 29 percent of IT managers as a major factor in their concerns, with half noting that this was a ‘dated’ approach.
The majority of respondents were considering revising their data management processes and 16 percent noted specific board interest in and budget for such a review.
19 percent of respondent’s principal concern lay in the speed in which their business’ data could be backed up and subsequently restored. A further 8 percent said that they needed to find a more cost-effective approach to data management.
