The draft version of BS25999 Part One: the Business Continuity Management British Standard will be published by the British Standards Institution (BSI) on Monday July 3rd. This will mark the start of a 60 day public consultation period which will close on 31st August 2006. Anyone with an interest in the new standard is encouraged to read the draft standard and make relevant comments. All comments must be made on the approved template which will be available alongside the draft standard.
The URL for reviewing BS25999 Part One will be http://www.bsi-global.com/bs25999
Once the public consultation has finished, the development committee will review all comments. Individuals will not receive a personalised response to their comments, but all comments will be logged in a spreadsheet and the committee's response added. This spreadsheet will be available on the BSI website to ensure complete transparency.
Depending on the time it takes to work through the comments, the BSI committee hopes to publish Part 1 of the standard sometime during November 2006.
Work on BS25999 Part 2, which describes the control framework, will start in July under the leadership of Dave Austin (Siemens) and BSI expects to publish Part 2 in early 2007. It will then take the independent accreditation bodies most of 2007 to train and endorse a panel of assessors who are authorised to accredit compliance with the standard. Until that independent accreditation is available, organisations will be able to ‘self-declare’ that some, or all, of their organisation complies with the standard.
