BT has used the Gartner IT Security Summit 2006 as a platform to launch its ‘Risk Cockpit’ - an automated solution that provides companies with an easy-to-use, real-time view of risk exposure within their business.
The BT Risk Cockpit shows C-level executives key levels of exposure and control, allowing continuous visualization, monitoring and management of networked IT and infrastructure risk. It provides a single 'pane of glass' view through which the organization can share visibility of risks affecting the company such as security vulnerabilities, network resilience and availability. It also enables users to see how the effectiveness and performance of risk exposure controls are impacting their company.
Risk Cockpit users can drill down into more detail to identify risk and control owners, create action plans, and investigate audit reports. They can enter details of all risk factors, including relevant regulations and the cockpit will tell them accurately at any time whether and how those risks are being addressed.
Ray Stanton, global head of BT's business continuity, security and governance practice said: "The Risk Cockpit moves risk management on from the simple dashboard. It's about measuring risk appetite and understanding the response to it as well as considering when and where it is appropriate to take risks. Any effective management tool must therefore be able to take input and direction from the user. The BT Risk Cockpit provides the means for managers to overlay their expertise on to reports and graphical information coming in from the operational environment. In today's highly regulated environment, with companies under ever increasing scrutiny, any company without a system in place to provide a consolidated view of operational risks and their mitigation through effective controls is kidding itself that they are managing risk effectively. The Risk Cockpit from BT will bring risk management back into the core of the business and the boardroom where it belongs."
The Risk Cockpit is built on a highly scalable, open architecture, which enables it to integrate with existing systems that monitor risk and incorporate their data. It also enables different views to be created to suit the needs of different users from the CEO to compliance officers and can be accessed via web browsers, Microsoft Outlook and even mobile devices such as BlackBerrys. The technology is implemented after a comprehensive consultancy process that helps the organization identify and examine its key operational and business risks, assesses their potential affect on the business and provides recommendations on their management, based on the organization's attitude to risk.
Available in the UK, France, Germany, Benelux and the US, roll-out plans include availability in Asia Pacific countries and the rest of Europe by the end of 2006.
