Get free weekly news by e-mailA new interactive CD-Rom, sponsored by the Government Office for the East of England and endorsed by the region's police forces, has been developed to help local businesses protect themselves against business crime, which costs the average business in Eastern England £5,000 each per year and can be a cause of IT and process downtime.

Each police force in the region will be distributing 1,000 CDs to local businesses in their community.

The CD features information and advice on a variety of security measures and other tactics that can be employed to reduce the risks of becoming a victim of crime. It includes sections on:

* Business crime
* Home security
* Terrorism
* Vehicle security, and
* Robbery

Also included is a comprehensive risk management guide to enable companies to identify and assess potential risks and take appropriate action, as well as a list of relevant contacts that can be sourced for further information on business crime issues.

Kevin Jones, Business Crime Reduction Adviser, at GO-East, said:
"We hope that this CD will provide firms in the region with a useful tool to assist them in reducing crimes against their business. This type of crime has a real impact, not just on the individual businesses affected, but also on the wider community and on the economy of the region."
