ICM opens 1700 seat Romford recovery centre

ICM’s 12th UK recovery facility, situated in Romford, Essex, provides 1,700 seats in 40 suites, and has been developed to meet the needs of small and medium, as well as large companies, operating in central London and the eastern Home Counties.

Just 20 minutes by train from Liverpool Street station, the 73,000 sq ft centre offers workplace and dedicated dealing positions and is equipped with the latest VoIP telephony.

The £30m centre has been developed as part of ICM’s strategy to provide both inner and outer London business continuity centres and means that the company can now offer around 3,000 seats at sites diversely located in and around the capital. Other recovery centres are located at Wapping, Sevenoaks and High Wycombe, all within a one hour radius of the capital.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, John Milne, head of the FSA business continuity team and representative to the Financial Tripartite Standing Committee, said: "Firms need to appreciate the inherent risks in having their disaster recovery centres too close - some literally in walking distance - from their primary offices. In the event of a wider area disaster which could be as straight forward as a gas leak – through to terrorism, a number of large financial institutions and many smaller businesses would be materially impacted."

Steve Wainwright, chief executive, ICM, said: “The centre represents the first significant investment in new facilities for the London business continuity market in nearly four years. In opening such a substantial centre in outer London, ICM is responding to the changing risk profile faced by London businesses. Placing a recovery centre near to where workers commute from and away from areas of risk makes business sense.”
