Tropical Cyclone Larry update

Get free weekly news by e-mailAs previously reported by Continuity Central, on 20th March 2006 the Far North Queensland coast just south of Cairns was hit by a Category 5 cyclone, Tropical Cyclone Larry. A significant number of businesses were affected and the area has been declared a natural disaster zone by the Queensland Government. To date, the Australian Government contribution to the relief and recovery effort is in excess of $100 million.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), has announced special arrangements to assist companies affected by Cyclone Larry in North Queensland . Mr Jeffrey Lucy, chairman of ASIC said: “ASIC recognizes that some companies and office holders may have difficulties with lodgments, notifications and payment of fees. In cases where companies and office holders are experiencing difficulties, extensions of time may be granted and late fees waived. Each case will be considered on its own individual merits.”
