UK government launches National Capabilities Survey, 2006

Get free weekly news by e-mailThe UK National Capabilities Survey (NCS) was launched late last week. Seen as a crucial part of an ongoing programme to make the UK more resilient to disruptive events, it will provide an up to date assessment of national resilience capabilities, enabling the identification of priorities for future investment, exercises and policy development.

The 2006 National Capabilities Survey follows the Regional Capability Mapping Exercise led by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister in 2003/04. This year's study is broader and more comprehensive in its scope and will be repeated every two years. It has been developed by the Civil Contingencies Secretariat and the Regional Resilience Team in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM), in collaboration with Lead Government Departments and the Cabinet Office's Social Research Unit.

A ‘wide range of resilience stakeholders, in several different sectors and at all levels of resilience planning’ will be surveyed for the study and a range of questionnaires will be issued, each tailored to their intended audience and designed with the aim of collecting specific information relating to capabilities and resilience.

Completed surveys will need to be returned by late March 2006.
