GeoWireless was one of the companies involved in reestablishing communications after the hurricane Katrina cut off capabilities along the Gulf shore. Now, GeoWireless is showcasing the same disaster recovery abilities and its mobile command and control center in 40 US cities.
Visitors to the GeoWireless mobile unit will have the opportunity to experience the quality of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone calls, and test the speeds of data transmissions over a 10 megabit, full duplex, satellite backhaul, using 802.11x wireless.
In addition to the mobile unit, GeoWireless will demonstrate its flyaway kit which provides instant wireless connectivity anywhere in an emergency. The customizable kits allow the reestablishment of data and voice communications via satellite. The kits are easily deployed and provide a secure, low-cost disaster recovery solution, enabling communication regardless of the status of traditional telecoms services.
"The technologies and capabilities we are showcasing are essential in providing the government, industry and first responders with vital communications needed to solve environmental and business continuity issues and save lives," said John Hearton, president, GeoWireless, LLC. "The mobile command and control center can establish wireless data, voice and video communications instantly within a 2.5 mile radius and has capabilities of extending network communications up to 50 miles. Additionally, no community should be without a flyaway kit, as it provides an answer to emergency communication needs, before a problem strikes."
