Following extremely positive feedback from its new Technology Continuity and Disaster Recovery Masterclass piloted last month, Automata has decided to run this innovative course every month (except around major holidays) commencing on 18th and 19th January 2006.
The pilot course was attended by two categories of delegates:
1. Technology specialists involved in providing business continuity and disaster recovery solutions, who wish to achieve the grade of Specialist Member of the Business Continuity Institute (SBCI)
2. Generalist business continuity professionals seeking to enhance their technological expertise.
The course explained the ten standards of the Business Continuity Institute (which are shared with the Disaster Recovery Institute International) and examined the role of technology continuity and DR within BCM programmes. In doing so it focused on business impact analysis and its special role in enabling technology professionals to understand the business priorities for application/software recovery. From these fundamentals, delegates were guided as to how to cost effectively create resilience within the technology infrastructures of their organisations. In the forthcoming year, Automata intends to ensure the course keeps on the leading edge of developments from the world of technology.
In addition, to the lectures given by the course leaders, guest speakers from a number technology solutions companies delivered informative talks. Andrew Watson of Attix 5 covered future storage scenarios in a talk entitled ‘Data Backup, Restore and BCM’ and Leo Craig of Riello lectured on ‘Power Quality, Essential for Business Continuity’ emphasising issues surrounding UPS and resilient power supplies. Former Masterclass delegate, Anna Reed, gave two highly informative lectures on ‘DR: Technology & Infrastructure Essentials & Testing’ and drew upon her extensive experience of preparing major organisations for DR tests. Interesting and instructive guest speakers from the world of technology will be a key feature of the Technology Continuity and DR Masterclass during 2006.
