In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Strohl Systems conducted a survey of business continuity managers and the current status of their organization’s business continuity plan. 51.9 percent of respondents to the survey said that their BCP would not be able to withstand wide-scale communication failures during a regional disaster. And there seems to be little proactivity in the area, with only 36.8 percent of respondents having taken the time to review their communication providers' business continuity plans.
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, 66.7 percent of respondents have reviewed their organization's emergency notification procedures. 83.3 percent of respondents now have a communications plan in place to contact employees prior to a known disaster, however only 24.8 percent of these make use of an automated emergency notification system.
