New combined replication / disaster recovery testing solution offers backup flexibility           

XOsoft has developed a new solution that allows a disaster recovery replica server to double as a server for performing offsite backups. This means that a company can add two layers of protection to its disaster recovery capabilities at once: remote replication for disaster recovery with automated failover for business continuity and fully validated offsite backup.

From a technical perspective, the combination of XOsoft's technology allows a backup to be performed on an offsite replica server using the same application based validation procedures that would occur on the production server; thereby eliminating additional costs and security risks associated with transporting the backup to the remote facility.

Through the combined solution, organizations can validate the replica server environment without disrupting IT production systems. This is critical because in an ordinary replication scenario, replicated data does not lend itself to use for backups since there is no way to ensure the data is in a consistent, ‘backup-ready’ state. However, this changes when XOsoft’s Assured Recovery is added to the solution because it is designed to perform in-depth testing of the recoverability of the application on a replica server without disrupting the production server, the replication process, or the automated failover protection mechanisms.

In addition to supporting full disaster recovery testing without disruption, Assured Recovery has built-in mechanisms for performing a backup or snapshot of application data in precisely the same way that it is performed on the production server.
