IDC has conducted a survey into the uptake of continuous data protection (CDP). It has found that even though many storage administrators admit that they have limited knowledge about continuous data protection products, a majority of survey respondents – about 64 percent – say that they either currently use them, plan to use them within 12 months, or are evaluating them.
Among other key findings of IDC's survey are:
* Most survey respondents have heard of CDP, and one fourth believe that they have a good understanding of it.
* Most end users admit that they are still not sure about the full implications of CDP and about which CDP product to use.
* CDP is not and will not be used as an exclusive replacement for existing methods of data protection.
