The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced that it has awarded $30 million in Competitive Training Grants to fifteen organisations. The grants are for training initiatives that ‘further the Department's all hazards mission of preparing the nation to prevent, deter, respond to, and recover from incidents of terrorism and natural disasters’.
The training programs developed from the grants will strengthen preparedness training for first responders, public officials and citizens. The new training programs will enhance preparedness in a variety of areas, including intelligence assessments, citizen readiness, transit and port security and mass casualty care.
The recipients completed a rigorous application process for this grant - competing with 267 applicants from a broad spectrum of entities including: national associations, institutions of higher education, private corporations working in conjunction with the nonprofit sector, and nonprofit organisations.
