Fuel protesters gearing up

Get free weekly news by e-mailFuel protesters in the UK are preparing for an initial three days of actions to highlight the pressure that the current high price of fuel is placing on fuel-dependent businesses. Protests have been organised by disparate regional groups, who are planning to keep their protests within the law to prevent police action. However disruption to businesses is likely across the country.

The main activities planned so far include protests outside oil refineries and various 'go slows' on major motorways and public roads. The latter will involve convoys of vehicles travelling slowly, but legally. Protestors are stating that other vehicle drivers will be allowed past, which may indicate that just one lane of dual carriageways and motorways will be utilised for the action. Even if this is the case, the UK faces three days of potentially severe traffic delays, which will inevitably impact upon logistics, as well as sales and service functions.

The go-slows that have been publicised so far will start at early rush hour and include the probability of protests on the M27, M4, M62, M1 and the M6.
