Severe flooding in Central China, Sierra Leone and Taiwan is taking place, relatively unnoticed by the wider world in the wake of Katrina.
Central China
Floods caused by weeks of heavy rain have killed at least 28 people in central China. Major power and communications outages are affecting the region and severe damage to transport infrastructure, properties and agricultural land has occurred.
Sierra Leone
Aid workers in Sierra Leone have managed to distribute aid to about 7,000 people stranded or made homeless by torrential rains in the south of the country, but another 10,000 remain out of reach. [Source: Planet Ark]
Taiwan
Typhoon Talim passed over Taiwan yesterday, closing businesses, schools, public buildings and the country’s financial markets. Heavy rains associated with the typhoon resulted in flooding problems.
