US National Preparedness Month 2005 to kick off with emergency preparedness fair

Get free weekly news by e-mailThe United States National Preparedness Month 2005 will start tomorrow (1st September) with a daylong public emergency preparedness fair. The event will start with Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and American Red Cross Chairman Bonnie McElveen-Hunter offering remarks on the importance of emergency preparedness. During the event, individuals will receive preparedness materials and learn about training opportunities from a number of National Preparedness Month Coalition organisations. Live on-stage demonstrations, such as first aid and emergency supply kit making will take place throughout the day. In addition, individuals will also have the opportunity to give blood at the American Red Cross Bloodmobile.

The emergency preparedness fair will take place at Union Station, West Hall, Washington D.C.

Various National Preparedness Month activities will take place during September to highlight the importance of public emergency preparedness for natural disasters and potential terrorist threats.

The North American Business Continuity Awareness Week will take place during National Preparedness Month. Between 18th-24th September many North American business continuity organisations and companies will work to raise awareness of the subject.
