City of London Police commissioner criticises levels of financial sector business continuity planning

The Financial Times has reported on an interview that it conducted with James Hart, commissioner of the City of London Police.

Mr Hart told the newspaper that: “A terrorist attack on the City of London is only a matter of time,” and that “there had been ‘hostile reconnaissance’ of the City on several occasions since September 11 2001.” According to Mr Hart, ‘places staked out included iconic sites, businesses and prominent buildings’.

Mr Hart then went on to criticise the levels of business continuity planning carried out by companies based in the City of London, telling the Financial Times that he estimated that ‘only 50 percent of businesses had plans in place’ and blaming ‘chief executives and boards for inadequate contingency planning’.
