The UK government has laid before Parliament the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 (Contingency Planning) Regulations 2005 and made the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 (Amendment of List of Responders) Order 2005, which makes Strategic Health Authorities a Category 2 responder. The government has also published the final version of the statutory guidance document ‘Emergency Preparedness’ as well as a final timetable for the Act’s implementation.

Under the timetable, after 15th May 2006 local authorities will have a duty to provide business continuity advice and assistance to organisations and companies within their region.
