New business continuity tool helps companies identify and mitigate power related threats

Get free weekly news by e-mailA new service to help businesses develop more effective strategies to protect against costly downtime from power interruptions has been launched by Emerson Network Power. Called the ‘Liebert Availability Assessment’ service it includes an evaluation tool designed to help businesses identify where their IT systems are vulnerable to failures from power loss or overheating. Availability experts from Emerson Network Power can use the tool to provide analysis and specific recommendations for integrating reliable power and cooling technologies to help mission critical systems stay up and running.

"An effective business continuity strategy must include power, cooling, and related management practices," said Bob Bauer, group vice president, Emerson. "The Liebert Availability Assessment is the first service to focus on these business critical systems, enabling organisations to maintain a resilient IT network with a high level of availability."

The assessment service was developed with support from business continuity specialist Network Frontiers, with input from IT, facilities, and business continuity professionals worldwide. By generating certain metrics, including risk scores, downtime tolerance, disruption costs and other measures, the assessment service provides customers with a business impact analysis of their company's current IT network power availability. It then provides a gap analysis of risks and vulnerabilities, with recommendations to help businesses protect against those potential failures.

The Liebert Availability Assessment can also be used to establish priorities for capital expenditures, as well as presenting power and facilities improvement plans to senior management.

A short, self-administered version of the assessment service can be accessed through http://assessment.liebert.com (registration required).
