Confidence lacking in reliability and restorability of backups

Get free weekly news by e-mailExaGrid Systems has announced that a survey of storage IT professionals attending recent storage conferences, showed that 50 percent of respondents are concerned that their data may not be reliably protected by current backup processes. In addition, an even greater number do not have confidence that they could adequately restore backed up data in an appropriate timeframe if needed.

The informal poll of more than 100 professionals was conducted at two premier conferences for storage IT professionals - Storage Decisions and Storage World Conference 2005. Additional data from the survey showed that 40 percent of participants expressed concern about the effectiveness of their disaster recovery abilities, with 30 percent of total respondents not even having a disaster recovery solution in place for reasons that included lack of budget; organisational priorities; and general confusion about the technology options available.

"Data is the lifeblood of an organization, and though no one will dispute the need for business continuity planning, the devil is in the details," said Mark Kaufman, president and CEO of ExaGrid Systems. "IT staff - particularly in midsized organizations - are limited in the budget and resources that they can dedicate to data protection. As a result, they are hard pressed to say with confidence that all necessary data is adequately protected and available on demand."
