ICM opens new recovery centre

Get free weekly news by e-mailOn 10th February ICM Computer Group officially launched its latest recovery centre. Located in Wapping, London, the facility offers 550-seats.

130 guests attended the opening, which mixed a traditional East End themed party with presentations dealing with the serious issues of disaster recovery and business continuity.

When choosing Wapping, ICM consulted with its customers and feedback suggested that while some wanted to be outside of Docklands others wanted to be away from the City. They also said they wanted to be able to walk to work if there was an attack on the Tube. The site is also in an area deemed by the Environment Agency to be safe from flooding, and is outside the Congestion Charging Zone.

Mike Osborne, ICM’s business continuity operations director stated: “We also heard that customers wanted the best possible standards of office accommodation, supported by very resilient power and communication feeds, and the physical protection of enhanced building security – to incorporate ‘bomb film’.

“On the back of meeting these demands we are satisfied that our Wapping site is now one of the most resilient buildings in London. For example, we can cut off the outside air intake if contaminated; we have three generators, our own sub-station, and four communication providers served by three different exchanges.”

Having launched a new recovery centre regionally every six months for the last six years, ICM has now developed a concept whereby all 11 centres are identically configured and ICM’s high-speed RecoveryNet communication network means that all its sites have high-speed access to the internet, email and the client’s data centres instantaneously.
