The new disaster recovery solution is designed to help healthcare organisations address two pressing issues: the April 2005 deadline for the final HIPAA security rule, which includes disaster recovery requirements; and greater awareness of the threat from catastrophic events such as extreme weather, earthquake and terrorist activities.

The CC/DR offering is claimed to be the broadest suite of products and services available to assess organisational vulnerabilities and to plan, deploy, document and test a customised disaster recovery program to satisfy HIPAA requirements and ensure continuous patient care in the event of an emergency. It includes the following components:

* Current State Assessment (CSA) - provides the customer with a third-party validation of its disaster recovery program by comparing it with industry best practices.

* Threat and risk assessment (TRA) - detects significant exposures that could adversely affect an organisation's ability to perform critical business processes.

* Business impact assessment (BIA) - provides a decision support tool to assist executive management in making sound business decisions to protect critical patient care processes.

* Application recovery and testing (ART) - provides the capability for the recovery and testing support for critical hospital applications following a disaster or other significant application disruption.
