Will
polling stations for the Iraqi elections in London, Manchester and
Glasgow become terror targets?
The International Organization for Migration
has announced that three polling stations for the forthcoming Iraqi
election will be established in London, Manchester and Glasgow.
It is estimated that there are some 250,000 Iraqis in the UK, of
which it is thought that 150,000 are eligible to vote. It is hoped
that having UK-based polling stations will give these people easy
access to their democratic right.
However, the question must be asked whether
these polling stations may become the target for terrorist attack,
bringing the Iraqi insurgency onto the streets of Britain.
Continuity Central advises businesses
in the areas close to the polling stations to be aware of the potentially
increased risk.
The polling stations will be
located at:
London: Wembley Conference and
Exhibition Centre, Stadium Way, Wembley HA9 0DW
Manchester: Sheridan Suite,
371 Oldham Road, Manchester M40 8EA
Glasgow: 71, Holland Street,
Glasgow G2 4PF
The facilities will be open for voter
registration between Monday 17th January and Sunday 23rd January.
Hours of registration will be 0800-1700 GMT. Voting will take place
over three days, between Friday 28th January and Sunday 30th January.
Hours of voting will be 0700-1700 GMT.
