SunGard
Availability Services has invested over £1million in a new
mobile recovery service. QuickShip is claimed to be the first mobile
recovery solution in the UK to provide a service that is truly scalable
and testable and which also offers predefined delivery timescales
(customers benefit from a contracted arrival time, rather than despatch
time; within as little as eight hours).
QuickShip is a technology resource which UK customers can call
on to replace their own systems during an invocation or to use for
testing. Based in the East Midlands, the latest technologies can
be quickly shipped to customer sites to significantly reduce any
business disruption. The QuickShip service will also give customers
a purchase option at invocation so that if a company’s own
technology is destroyed it can retain the QuickShip equipment.
The new service will also significantly reduce the time and money
customers currently spend on testing business continuity plans as
they can now do this in their own environment - without the need
to visit a SunGard facility.
Additionally, the QuickShip PCs are identical to the high-specification
technology already deployed at SunGard's Workplace Recovery locations.
This standardisation means that customers who have previously tested
their business continuity solution at a SunGard site can contract
for QuickShip secure in the knowledge that any equipment delivered
at time of disaster will already be totally familiar to them.
QuickShip consists of 80 of the latest dual and quad processor
Intel servers, 500 PCs with 15, 18 and 20-inch TFT monitors, over
30 printers and more than 17TB of storage including fibre-attached
disk. This is in addition to SunGard's considerable existing installed
base of other shippable equipment. The technology is also on a regular
refresh cycle, in keeping with SunGard's commitment to service excellence
via investment.
