Weekly has reported that the Cardiff, Carmarthenshire and Wrexham
local authorities have worked in partnership to develop a joint
disaster recovery centre. Based in Cardiff, and due to open in August,
the new facility will allow essential council functions to continue
should a crisis occur.
The centre uses Sun Microsystems platforms
and technical support will be provided by Fujitsu Services.
The councils are networked to the recovery
site via the Welsh Assembly’s Wales Lifelong Learning Network,
which already connects all 22 Welsh councils together, opening the
way for other councils in Wales to utilise the same DR facility.
However non-Sun users would find it more difficult to join the scheme.
