COLT
Telecom has been selected by SunGard Availability Services to connect
its four disaster recovery campuses in London.
Worth an estimated EUR4 million over five years,
the contract involves COLT delivering its High Speed Service (HSS)
optical connectivity solution to SunGard. COLT HSS, based on Nortel
Networks optical storage connectivity solutions, provides the basis
for the second generation of ScaleNet, SunGard's metropolitan area
network and part of the company's 25,000-mile network backbone.
SunGard connects its customers to ScaleNet
using the COLT LANLink portfolio, which provides Ethernet connections
over the wide area network, enabling SunGard customers to back up
their data. LANLink offers many bandwidths between 2Mbps and 1Gbps,
which are easily scalable when customers need extra capacity.
Developed in late 2001 with COLT's expertise,
ScaleNet was the first high bandwidth metropolitan area network
for the UK business continuity industry. To keep ScaleNet meeting
the business and technology demands of its customers, SunGard chose
to invest further with COLT and has deployed COLT HSS within ScaleNet's
second-generation infrastructure.
ScaleNet connects SunGard's four London recovery
campuses, which include the £40 million London Technology
Centre (LTC) in Hounslow - Europe's largest purpose-built information
availability and business continuity data centre - as well as interfacing
with SunGard's national and international networking infrastructure
for enhanced resilience.
The linking of its London recovery campuses
provides SunGard customers with a choice of flexible, cost-effective
solutions that meet their budgetary and business availability requirements,
including bandwidth-on-demand and carrier class networking. And
with LTC providing connectivity between ScaleNet and SunGard's UK
network of recovery centres, the company's overall rollback position
is enhanced.
