Ms
Kishori J Udeshi, deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India,
used a recent conference to explore the implications of Basel II
for Indian banks. The event was the World Bank / IMF / US Federal
Reserve Board “4th Annual International Seminar on Policy
Challenges for the Financial Sector: Basel II”, which took
place in Washington DC in early June.
Ms Udeshi’s speech confirmed that there
is “ample evidence of the capacity of the Indian banking system
to migrate smoothly to Basel II.”
