The
Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) is one of eleven
organisations worldwide to receive the 2004 Computerworld Honors
21st Century Achievement Award, recognising innovative and visionary
application of information technology.
The Computerworld Awards were presented at
a ceremony in Washington, DC, on June 7th.
DTCC was chosen from among 250 companies' case
studies of the year's most innovative applications of technology
from 36 states and 26 countries, nominated by chairmen and CEOs
who advise the program.
DTCC received the award for its innovative
use of technology in implementing a business continuity strategy
that expands the use of remote data centers (RDCs).
In the process of implementing this strategy,
DTCC partnered with EMC Corporation to break new ground in developing
long-distance, automatic asynchronous data replication capabilities
and RDC capacity.
This use of technology helps to ensure the
secure, uninterrupted clearance and settlement of securities trades
by the principal US financial marketplaces - the New York Stock
Exchange, Nasdaq, the American Stock Exchange, regional exchanges
and electronic communications networks (ECNs) - in the event of
a regional catastrophe.
"We are extremely pleased to receive this
prestigious award," said Jill M. Considine, chairman and CEO
of DTCC. "This is truly a significant recognition of the pioneering
work done behind the scenes by hundreds of our IT professionals
to create this multi-site, multi-tiered business continuity infrastructure.
"What is especially meaningful is that
with our case study now part of a global archive, we can share DTCC's
experience and the practical knowledge we have gained to encourage
wider and more informed discussion and focus on business continuity
planning throughout our industry, and other industries as well,"
