AT&T
will conduct a network disaster recovery (NDR) exercise, designed
to test and evaluate how well the company can respond to a simulated
disaster that destroys a South Florida-area central office, the
data-routing and voice-switching centre at the heart of a telecommunications
network.
The six-day exercise will begin today, April
29th, as 30 AT&T state-of-the-art tractor-trailers roll into
the Pompano Harness Track in Pompano Beach, Fla., the venue for
the exercise.
AT&T's NDR exercises, which are conducted
throughout the United States several times a year, ensure that communications
can be restored quickly to the company's government, business and
consumer clients if a disaster damages or destroys part of its network.
They are part of the company's comprehensive array of business continuity
and disaster recovery capabilities.
"The NDR drill is a pivotal component
of AT&T's business continuity and disaster recovery program,"
said John Kern, director of AT&T's Network Disaster Recovery
Program.
AT&T will follow up on its NDR exercise
on Tuesday, May 4th, with a ‘Networking Leaders Forum’
that brings together AT&T executives, business customers and
outside experts to discuss the latest trends in business continuity
and disaster recovery.
