BCI outlines its succession plan

Get free weekly news by e-mailThe BCI has written an open letter to its members, outlining the Institute’s succession plans and a restructuring strategy. The letter is published below (verbatim):

Dear member,

It has now been some while since we last updated you on the actions being taken by your Board and Executive Committee regarding John and Ann Sharp’s decision to leave the Institute.

Following the communication of John and Ann's decision, your Board established a small Transition Team led by our Board Chair Larry Kalmis. They were tasked with producing a plan of action that included a new management structure and the relocation of the BCI office. The plan was to take into consideration both the present needs of the Institute and its members with those in the longer term - in line with the Institute’s long-term strategy.

The Transition Team presented their proposals to your Board on the 5th April 2004.

Your Board has now formally stood down the Transition Team. The Executive Committee under the leadership of the Executive Chair, Steve Mellish, will now take the actions agreed forward.

In summary these activities will include:

• The relocation of the BCI office to Reading under commercial arrangements
(i.e. formal contract and remuneration) with Durable – a company associated with our Finance Director and Company Secretary Tony Shepherd. New address details will be made available as soon as possible.

• The advertising and appointment of two permanent Institute office staff to
be located at Reading. A Senior Executive with responsibility for membership services supported by an Administration Officer. Job profiles will be posted to our web site and published in the local press. Applications for either vacancy from our membership will be welcomed.

• To complete the new management structure we will be appointing an
Executive Director at a later date who will be responsible for the growth and marketing of the BCI.

Clearly, the priority is to maintain membership services, hence the initial two appointments. Both John and Ann Sharp continue to provide excellent service and support during this period of transition.

We will of course provide further updates as we have news to share with you but the message for now is that our goal remains to provide you with an excellent service and Institute business as usual.
