FBI issues terror threat warning to oil refineries

CNN has reported that the FBI has confirmed that it had privately issued a threat advisory to local police agencies and oil industry representatives in the Houston area concerning an elevated risk of attacks on oil refineries and related facilities in the area.

The sources stressed to CNN that “the report of potential terrorist activity is ‘unconfirmed and uncorroborated,’ and ‘the message from FBI headquarters to the Houston field office was sent "out of an abundance of caution.’"

The warning was sent after “nonspecific threat information” which “mentioned only the possible targeting of the Texas oil industry generally”.

Oil stocks fell yesterday in the wake of the warning.
