Media is reporting that there has been unprecedented interest in
Risk magazine's annual operational risk conference, Oprisk USA 2004,
being held in New York on 30th and 31st March. The conference examines
the sophisticated operational risk management frameworks that organisations
are having to adopt and implement in order to keep up with the increasing
complexity of today's business environment and the ever more challenging
regulatory demands.
Suzanne Labarge, vice chairman and chief risk
officer at RBC Financial Group, and Roger Cole, senior associate
director of the Federal Reserve Board, will be giving the audience
the benefit of their vast experience as keynote speakers at this
year's event. A strong theme running through the conference will
be the link between corporate governance and effective operational
risk management, and how good corporate governance, both internal
and external, can actually reduce operational risk.
Regulatory issues and Basel II will be examined
at the conference by high level practitioners and academics, including
Jay Newberry, head of operational risk at Citigroup, Michael Ong,
professor at Illinois Institute of Technology and Kevin Bailey,
Deputy Comptroller, OCC.
