AT&T running Detroit business continuity exercise AT&T, working with local officials and business leaders, is conducting a full-scale disaster recovery simulation in the Metro Detroit area, from May 6 to May 14 near The Dearborn Inn. In advance of the exercise AT&T's 2010 Business Continuity Study found that many local Detroit businesses are well prepared for disasters and several are investing in additional technology. Total cost of US fires up 86 percent from 1980 The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has released a new report, ‘Total Cost of Fire in the United States’, which finds that in 2007, after adjusting for inflation, the core total cost of fire has increased by 86 percent since 1980. The complete total cost of fire for 2007 is estimated at $347 billion, making up approximately 2.5 percent of the US gross domestic product (GDP).
Other key findings from the report:
* Although the core total cost of fire increased, the economic loss due to fire decreased by 13 percent since 1980, totaling at $18.6 billion.
* The total cost of direct property damages, reported or unreported, totaled at $16.6 billion. This figure represents 90 percent of the economic loss. The other 10 percent represents indirect losses, such as business interruption.

SunGard announces first quarter 2010 results SunGard has reported that revenue for the quarter ended March 31, 2010 was $1.25 billion, down 6 percent from 2009. Adjusted EBITDA was $297 million, down 9 percent from 2009. Adjusted income from operations was $217 million, down 10 percent from 2009. Excluding the results of one of its trading systems businesses revenue was up 3 percent and adjusted income from operations was down 3 percent. Income from operations for the quarter ended March 31, 2010 was $74 million, down 26 percent from 2009. Availability Services' revenue decreased $1 million to $369 million for the quarter.
