A new Avalution Consulting white paper with the above title is now available.
As the business continuity management discipline continues to mature, more and more standards – and now even organizational certifications – are being introduced or matured world-wide. Organizational certification is a positive development that directly contributes to market differentiation and even previously-unattainable program discipline. However, public and private sector organizations are confused and continue to speculate on if certification is right for them. This white paper analyzes the business case for pursuing business continuity certification, including what it takes to complete the certification process and how best to prepare.
Main discussion topics include:
* The value of certification
* Organizational certifications currently available
* What to certify
* What’s required to complete the certification process
* How to begin preparing.

Authors: Brian Zawada (MBCP), Susan Giffin (CBCP) and Glen Bricker (CBCP).
While there is some useful analysis within this white paper it shows up a lack of in-depth understanding on the part of the authors of the certification options or issues for many organisations.
For example, ISO 22399 is stated to be an ISO standard. This is very definitely NOT the case. ISO 22399 is a PAS - a Publicly Available Specification - and not a standard. This PAS deals with a wide range of incident management, emergency planning and continuity issues - some more successfully than others. The fact that it is not a standard indicates that it has some way to go before it can ever provide certifiable benchmarks.
