The second in a series of short thought provoking comments by Mike Bemis.
It’s a funny business we’re in. It’s a bit like selling life insurance to people who know they will never die. Yet each morning I wake up think “Someone’s out of business this morning and I could have helped them.” It’s true, it happens every day.
The literature of our industry warns of dire consequences: of terrorist activity, bombings, fire, flood, tornadoes and hurricanes. Heaven knows, even infectious diseases have been trotted out in a recent article. But the people know. They know that these things can never happen to them.
It’s early in the morning, I sit in my office writing and I know… somewhere, someone…
It’s the little things that get you. Seemingly insignificant little things close a business somewhere every day; a leaking water pipe, a broken sewer line, a gas main.
So, my friends, it can happen to you. Best to ask what will it cost and are you willing to pay the price. Maybe it’s time to have a little chat about business continuity…
