An essential one-day workshop for senior Communications executives and Business Continuity managers.
Reputations built up over many years can be ruined in hours if communication is not timely and reassuring in the event of a crisis.
This workshop is right for you if…
- You are responsible for developing or implementing your organisation’s Business Continuity (crisis management) plans.
- You work in internal or external corporate communications.
- You work for a PR consultancy and advise clients on crisis management.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have a clear idea about developing plans in the event of an unforeseen crisis covering:
- What to communicate, when and to whom.
- Which communications methods to use.
- How well resourced their organisation is to cope with the communications aspects of a crisis.
- How to integrate an effective communications strategy into your BC plan.
The workshop is unique in that it brings together in one room the key contributors to crisis planning – comms practitioners and business continuity specialists. Many delegates have found working together on exercises has opened their eyes to the need for closer collaboration in crisis planning.
You will start to develop your organisation's own crisis communications plan while on the workshop and be provided with a template which will help to complete that plan on your return to your office.
Course tutors:
In keeping with the nature of the workshop, it is run by two trainers – both leading experts in their field - one from Communications and one from Business Continuity.
Jonathan Hemus
Jonathan is one of the UK’s foremost authorities in crisis communications. As Head of Porter Novelli’s worldwide crisis and issues practice, he advised many of the world’s leading companies and other organisations. His work for the International Cricket Council when faced with the issue of match-fixing won him the Institute of Public Relations annual award for crisis management. In 2008, Jonathan set up Insignia, his own reputation management and communication consultancy specialising in crisis and issues communication, reputational risk management as well as communication and media training.
Patrick Roberts or Helen Molyneux
Patrick and Helen run Cambridge Risk Solutions, which specialises in providing business continuity and crisis management consultancy to a wide range of major corporate and public sector clients. Between them they have worked both in-house for major companies like Barclays, emergency planning officers for Councils – in Yorkshire and in London - and provided BC advice to many commercial organisations (e.g. Orange, BAE Systems) and public bodies such as HM Treasury and a number of NHS Health Trusts. Both Helen and Patrick have had many articles published in the area of crisis management and are visiting lecturers at the University of Hertfordshire.
Course contributor:
Jonathan Grun - Editor of The Press Association
The Press Association is the UK's leading news agency and plays a central role in media communications for all crises in this country. More major news stories break from the PA than any other media organisation including the BBC. Jonathan joins us for a fascinating session on how to handle the media in a crisis.
After Jonathan’s session, there will be an opportunity for delegates to have a guided tour of the PA’s News Floor and get a glimpse of how journalists handle crisis and other stories.
