ContinuitySA launches IT Service Continuity training course
Africa’s largest business continuity service provider, ContinuitySA, has enhanced its Complete Continuity Training Academy to include a new course: IT Service Continuity. The two-day course is targeted at IT and business continuity management professionals responsible for the continued uptime of IT services within their organisations. Attendees will not simply be bombarded with theory, but will be taught skills proven in the real world by active BCM practitioners with MBCI (Member of the Business Continuity Institute) certifications. The course is based on the Good Practice Guidelines of the BCI and complies with the British Standard BS 25999 to ensure it is on par with international best practices. UN launches online database to help businesses adapt to climate change
A new online database launched by the United Nations will showcase successful strategies that businesses and communities are using to adapt to climate change. The database, which can be accessed through the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) website, features more than 100 examples from companies such as Coca-Cola, Levi’s, Microsoft and Starbucks. “By showcasing private sector adaptation success stories, we intend to help both communities and businesses become more climate-resilient and to put the benefits and business sense of adaptation firmly on the agenda of the private sector,” said UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres, speaking from the World Economic Forum in Davos. “Climate risks which affect communities around the world are always also business risks,” she added.

Insider Threat Control: Using a SIEM signature to detect potential precursors to IT Sabotage
The Insider Threat Center at CERT recently released a new insider threat control that is specifically designed to detect the presence of a malicious insider based on key indicators to IT sabotage activity. The goal is to detect the identity of the attacker, what remote connection protocol he or she is using, and whether the activity is occurring outside of normal working hours, based upon empirical data of malicious insider activity. http://www.cert.org/archive/pdf/SIEM-Control.pdf

NIST publishes draft implementation guidance for continuously monitoring an organization's IT system security
Three new draft reports published by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) are designed to help both public and private organizations improve the security of their information management systems by developing capabilities for continuous monitoring of security. Comments are requested on the drafts. The documents are:

Recovery Networks will maintain offices at the data center and be on site daily to provide 24/7 support to Philadelphia Technology Park and Recovery Networks customers. The venture will also provide current Recovery Network customers with a premium storage facility to house their data infrastructure.
