Major disaster declared for North Carolina
FEMA has announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for the state of North Carolina. The assistance will supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe winter storms and flooding during the period of December 18-25, 2009. Michael Bolch has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. http://www.fema.gov/news/event.fema?id=12268

Is the focus on financial risks diverting attention from other risks?
Lloyd’s CEO Richard Ward has warned that the current focus on financial risks could be diverting attention away from other important issues such as extreme weather, cyber security, and piracy. Speaking at a function during the Association for French Risk Managers annual conference in Deauville, Ward said that it’s the low probability, high impact risks that can have the biggest effect such as September 11 and hurricane Katrina. Double-Take Software Launches Double-Take Availability for Linux Version 4.6
Double-Take Software has announced the availability of Double-Take Availability for Linux Version 4.6, which now provides businesses with continuous full-server protection for entire workloads running on Linux systems, including operating system and application files, data and applications. Version 4.6 expands support for Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) beyond version 10 to include support for versions 9 and 11. Read press release.

UK Security Breach Investigations Report 2010 published
A report summarising analysis of data compromise cases has been released by Computer Security and Forensics consulting firm 7Safe and the University of Bedfordshire. Anonymised data has been analysed from over 60 computer forensic investigations undertaken by 7Safe.
