BCS is to publish a new series of books to support candidates undertaking exams such as ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Service Management qualifications. The first books are due to be published over the next six months. They are:
* IT Service Management: A Guide for Foundation Exam Candidates
* IT Service Management Foundation Practice Questions: For Foundation Exam Candidates
* The Manager's Bridge Certificate in IT Service Management: A Guide for Exam Candidates
Matthew Flynn, BCS book publisher, said: 'These books have been prepared by eminent professionals in the service management field, and we anticipate they will become key reading for candidates preparing for exams, providing a straight-forward overview of the subjects and giving them the best chance of succeeding.' A guide for designing buildings using steel moment frames to resist earthquakes has been published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as part of its support for the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP). The guide, ‘Seismic Design of Steel Special Moment Frames’ is available at www.nehrp.gov/pdf/nistgcr9-917-3.pdf

Cisco has announced enhanced capabilities to its data center portfolio that will better protect information, enhance resiliency, and reduce cost and complexity for storage-area networks (SANs). The new capabilities enhance security and accelerate data traffic over greater distance for customers with IBM System z mainframe storage environments and for those with open systems SANs. Less than one in four small to mid-sized enterprises are using any kind of hosted email failover solution or backup email continuity service to minimise email downtime, according to a new research report published by Connect. 89 percent of companies with under 50 employees surveyed had no way of accessing emails if they suffered from a serious server failure.
