FEMA has made two major disaster announcements:
- For Florida to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms, flooding, tornadoes, and straight-line winds beginning on March 26, 2009, and continuing.
- For the State of Indiana. The assistance will supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding during the period of March 8-14, 2009.

The Advisory Group on Environmental Emergencies (AGEE) will hold its 8th meeting from Wednesday 6 May to Friday 8 May 2009 in Brussels, co-organized with the European Commission's Monitoring and Information Centre. The AGEE is an international forum that brings together environmental specialists, disaster managers, and emergency policy makers from around the world to share information, expertise and lessons learned to improve preparedness and response to environmental emergencies.

The Business Continuity Institute has organised a workshop to identify and tackle the issues around supply chain resilience as part of a coherent risk and business continuity management strategy. The workshop will be addressed by leading academic in supply chain management, Dr Helen Peck of Cranfield University, and a number of industry practitioners, including a case study from Vodafone UK.
