FEMA has announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for Missouri to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe winter storms and flooding during the period of February 10-14, 2008. The action makes federal funding available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe winter storms and flooding in Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Christian, Douglas, Greene, Madison, Mississippi, Ozark, Reynolds, Scott, Shannon, Stoddard, Texas, Wayne, Webster, and Wright Counties. http://www.fema.gov/news/event.fema?id=9506
NOAA has deployed the final two tsunami detection buoys in the South Pacific this week, completing the buoy network and bolstering the US tsunami warning system. This network of 39 stations provides coastal communities in the Pacific, Atlantic, Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico with faster and more accurate tsunami warnings. Read NOAA press release.
