FEMA Disaster Operations Division director announced for Pacific NW
Federal Emergency Management Agency regional administrator Susan Reinertson has announced the appointment of Lon Biasco as the new Disaster Operations Division director for FEMA Region X, a jurisdiction which includes the states of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. According to Reinertson, the new position supports field elements in directing the delivery of federal assistance supporting state and local response and recovery efforts.

UK government invites CBRN research proposals
The Home Office is looking to commission applied research and development projects that explore chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear threats and offer potential enhancements to the UK counter-terrorism capability. Proposals are invited from research and development organisations from public and private sectors for commencement of projects between September 2008 and May 2009. More details.

Singapore plans pandemic exercise
Forbes Calamity Prevention has reported that Singapore's next financial sector industry-wide exercise will be in 3Q 2008. The Association of Banks in Singapore is soliciting proposals from eleven companies to manage an exercise that simulates the late stages of an infectious disease epidemic on the island.
