UK government announces increase in flood risk management spending
Hilary Benn, the Environment Secretary, has announced an increased flood defence settlement in the Comprehensive Spending Review 2007, with spending due to rise from around £600m this year to £800m by the end of the CSR period. The government will further increase spending on flood risk management and defences to £800 million by 2010-11. http://www.defra.gov.uk

Major US disaster declarations
FEMA has announced that major disaster declarations have been made for the following areas of the US:
- The state of New York for the area struck by severe storms and flooding on June 19, 2007.
- The State of Kansas for the area impacted by severe storms and flooding beginning on June 26, 2007, and continuing.
- The state of Texas for the area struck by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding during the period of June 16-18, 2007.
